This entry is part 9 of 10 in the series Blog Improvement Series

We all have one thing in common, which is our love for blogging! Now, I know that my love of blogging has made me come to the decision that I want my blog (Forever the Wanderto become my career. I know a lot of you want to do the exact same, well maybe not to the extent that I want, but you want to be able to make some sort of money from your blog too. Whether it’s just to cover the costs of running your website, money for your weekly shopping or to bring you, your boyfriend/husband or kids out for a nice little treat. Well, you can!

There are a lot of articles and information on how to monetize your blog and it can become very overwhelming so today I am going to break down 5 ways that you can monetize your blog starting today, if that’s what you really want.

Sponsored posts

A sponsored post is basically a private ad that a brand or company pays a blogger to put up a blog post, banner, graphic or link on their blog and gets paid to do it. Some companies have a certain budget for sponsored posts and other’s don’t, so it may take you some negotiations for you to get a price. Make sure you are available to make contact and check your inboxes for opportunities.

If a company wants to work with you, they will most likely have a pre-written blog post they will send to you to upload and post on your blog. My advice would be to only take a sponsored post if it is within your niche so when you’re audience reads this post it won’t confuse them to as why it is on your page. It may take you a little while to secure a sponsored post but I believe that you can do it too. The first sponsored post that I found was through Twitter and the second one I was contacted by the brand directly.

Affiliate Marketing

This is a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays commission to an external website for traffic or sales. You can sign up to affiliate programs such as Amazon, Ultimate Bundles or Icelolly. There are a ton of affiliate programs that you can join and start making a commission for products or services that you promote through your blog.

There are three ways that you can earn some commission by pay per click, pay per lead and pay per sale. They mean exactly as they say. Make sure you know the company’s rules for example: when you will get paid, what happens if you don’t make any sales, what percentage of the product or service will you get paid, etc.

Create Your Own Products or Services

This is still something that I am trying to do! Creating your own products or services can be a great way to make money through your blog. There are so many options out there and this list is not an exhaustive list but here are some ideas on the products or services that you could offer on your blog.

  • Freelance writing
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Merchandise
  • Books/ebooks
  • Travel guides
  • Coaching
  • Cook Books
  • Information booklets.

And that’s just off the top of my head! I’m sure after you read that list some other ideas will pop into your head about what YOU can offer your audience. Remember having an audience that trusts, relates and enjoys engaging with you are a big way of making money from your blog. Even if you have only a small audience, if they trust you it’s more likely that will buy from you. So make sure you are nurturing your email list!

Create Courses

Do you have a lot of information that you can give to other people and help them solve a problem that they have? Then you could create a course for them. I know you’re thinking I’m mad, but just hear me out! You don’t need to be an expert to be able to help solve someone else’s problem. You just need to be one step ahead of them at all times.

A course can be a slideshow or presentation with some recordings of you speaking about the topic at hand, it could be a video of you speaking with some slides so your audience can take some notes.

There are a lot of ways that you can create a course. It can be as simple as an email course which is a huge way to boost your email list. Although an email course is free is will help you get people interested in what you love and teach which will make it easy for you to nurture and see your products/services to.

We use Sendinblue for our Newsletter and LOVE their service.
PERFECT for creating Welcome Series and Email Courses!

As bloggers we have all heard of Google Adsense but come on guys it’s 2019 we all know that we don’t make much money through it. Although you can still advertise this way there are other better ideas for advertising.

Why not open some spaces on your blog to advertise small businesses and other bloggers for a certain amount of money. Doesn’t that sound much more interesting, productive and a great way for monetizing?

I have spent countless hours researching how to monetize my blog and I just ended up frustrated. It seems so easy for others, right? Well, my advice would be for you to sit down and make a clear plan on what ways you would like to monetize your blog. Affiliate marketing is one of the quickest and easiest ways to monetize.

On a whim, I signed up to the Ultimate Bundles affiliate portal. The research, information and the training they have to help you maximize your success with affiliate marketing is amazing.

That would be my advice on the most actionable steps that you can take right now.
